Progress in Linux gaming field changed that in recent years: now, we have user-friendly interfaces like Bottles[1] that make running Windows apps on Linux very easy and convenient.
¶ Why Linux is the best for Hauptwerk
I’ve always hated to use Windows. This operating system is a nightmare in many ways, from performance and optimization to security and privacy. In fact, the only application for which I must use Windows is… Hauptwerk. But I’m very happy to announce that is not the case anymore!
Linux has many benefits over Windows. Focusing on professional-grade audio software like Hauptwerk, here are its main advantages:
- It is an open source operating system, meaning great flexibility[2], precise knowledge and control over how it operates, and active, continuous, worldwide and open development.
- It is not bloated with useless and intrusive background processes, thus liberating more CPU power and RAM for our sample sets.
- Linux will never force you to buy a new PC, claiming that your current machine isn’t powerful enough any longer. This means way more sustainability.
- Your Linux will never force you to create a cloud account to use it, or harass you with ads.
- Etc.

¶ The need for a Tutorial
After several weeks of testing with my own Hauptwerk setup, I decided to share a comprehensive tutorial to help anyone who wants to run Hauptwerk on Linux accomplish this goal with ease.
I hope that Tutorial will be pleasant and easy to read, and will be of great value to you and the community of Hauptwerk users!
Please be aware that Hauptwerk on Linux is unsupported by the editor, Milan Digital Audio:
- They won’t offer you support for Linux-related issues.
- Installation is still not as straightforward as on Windows, even if it is way more easier now than it was years ago. Hence this tutorial 😉
